I develop quote and bind software products for the insurance industry.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being able to learn new things and always striving to improve the testability, reliability and code quality of our products.
What do you find most challenging in your job?
Despite having many similarities, each insurance product is subtly different from all the others. Being able to identify those differences and make each product tailored exactly to the business’ requirements can sometimes be a challenge.
What’s your background – qualifications, previous experience?
I was awarded a BSc. (Hons.) in Computer Science and Electronic Music from Keele University. I formed a company which developed several award-winning educational software packages for Channel 4 Learning and LearnDirect/University for Industry. I’ve been a PHP developer for around 15 years, working on numerous web applications and e-commerce sites. I’ve also developed iOS applications with Objective-C and Swift.
What’s your biggest achievement?
Winning an RTS (Royal Television Society) award and a BAFTA, for educational software.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Hobbies etc.
I enjoy playing the piano, cooking, watching films and going to the theatre.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Pedantic. Grammar Nazi.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I used to be a session musician and I’ve also been a musical director/band member for many amateur theatre productions and worked with some very talented youngsters who have gone on to train at drama schools and to careers in the West End.
